The story looks to have about as much to do with the book as does, well, ours – or any zombie apocalypse story for that matter. (They evidently pretty much just bought the rights to the name, and then wrote their own screenplay.) But you've got to love the "hurtling zombie horde" effects.
You should also seriously buy and read the book, by the way. Amazing piece of work. Reading it, one is reminded that to illustrate what will happen to people and society under conditions of apocalypse, one has to know an awful lot about the nature of both people and society. That deep knowledge is what makes this book fantastic.
I'm particularly excited that this book went from conception to publication – via story work, writing, editing, copyediting, book design, cover design, and conversion – all in three months flat.
Seriously, the zombie apocalypse story may be the ultimate sandbox for exploration of existential themes. I'm surprised Graham Greene didn't invent it. Though he kind of did, come to think of it – most of his stories occur in places, Greeneland as they call it in aggregate, where the shit has come down, and everyone is basically trying to eat you. There were throngs of lepers in A Burnt-Out Case, destruction from the skies (The Blitz) in The End of the Affair, the borderline-dystopian horrors of Haiti under Papa Doc in The Comedians…
