trumpism (8)

I'm reprinting Ilhan Omar's NYTimes piece because it's so glorious, gorgeous, and steeped in sanity. (Plus wonderfully well written.) And mainly because it offers a hopeful call to action in a dark political time....   (read more)

Well, once again, Trump has gone blasting through a previously unimaginable floor of vileness. After mocking a disabled reporter, attacking the bereaved parents of a fallen serviceman, bragging about multiple sexual assaults on tape, and his defense of neo-Nazis and white supremacists, it was impossible to imagine being shocked by anything - and yet this one left my jaw scraping the floor....   (read more)

"Trump, of course, is a troll - both by temperament and by habit. His tweets and offhand taunts are the very essence of trolling - the lies, the scorn, the invective, the trash talk, and the rabid non sequiturs of an angry, aggrieved, isolated, and deeply self-absorbed adolescent who lives in a self-constructed bubble and gets the attention he craves from bashing his enemies and leaving clouds of outrage and dismay in his path."...   (read more)

Dear Congresswoman Eshoo - I am writing to demand that you personally and immediately bring Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. As of two days ago, he has committed treason by siding with an enemy of the United States against the people and democracy of the United States, for his own self-interest....   (read more)

Attention HMG: The normalisation of Trumpism is NOT okay. A racist, misogynist, nativist, ableist, authoritarian, violence-inciting, press-assailing, know-nothing, conspiracy-mongering, foul-mannered, pathologically lying, narcissistic, fascist kidnapper and confessed sexual predator should not be welcomed (or, indeed, allowed) in the UK....   (read more)

So, secret concentration camps for children - how far down are they on the slide into fascism, actually...? (Are we close? There already?)...   (read more)

The Republicans gave us Trump, and the Democrats gave us just about the only candidate so compromised and unloved that she could lose to Trump. Utter catastrophe ensues....   (read more)

The rise of Trump, and Trumpism, is the worst thing I've witnessed happen in or to American in my lifetime. It is a hundred times more dangerous and damaging than 9/11, as it strikes at the very heart of what America is and represents. Right now, simply, America is having a close call with fascism....   (read more)

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
